We’re proud to share that our Managing Director, Jason Wright, recently featured as a guest on the Taylor Talks Trades podcast, hosted by Jamie Taylor. In Episode 86, titled “Starting a Business. Dealing with the Skills Shortage. Starting Fires?”, Jason reflects on his journey from a hands-on start in the trades to leading Wrights Roofing.

In the episode, Jason opens up about his early experiences, starting out in roofing at just 7 years old, setting up his own business at 22, and the lessons learned along the way. It’s an honest, down-to-earth conversation about taking risks, spotting opportunities, and putting in the hard work to build something lasting.
He also speaks candidly about the skills shortage facing the industry and the need for greater support in education and training. Jason shares his thoughts on how we can encourage more young people to consider a future in the trades and the value of investing in the next generation of skilled workers.
There are a few laughs too – particularly when Jason recalls acquiring his first yard on a peppercorn rent, and how what looked like a scrapyard to others became the foundation for something bigger.
We’re pleased to see Jason’s insight and experience being recognised in this way, and grateful to Taylor Talks Trades for creating a platform where stories from across the industry can be shared and heard.
If you’re interested in the realities of starting a business, overcoming challenges in the trades, or simply want to hear a few great stories, the episode is well worth a listen.
